About Healthcare Facilities Symposium & Expo
The Healthcare Facilities Symposium & Expo, now in its 26th year, is where industry leaders, from design firms to healthcare owners, come together for 3 days to share best practices, explore new concepts and discover products and solutions. The mission of the Symposium is to create a multi-disciplinary environment that inspires you to evoke change and the advancement of a better delivery of healthcare through the physical space. Competitors, clients, and colleagues come together as friends to collaborate, share research, hear fresh perspectives and participate in the ever changing conversation of your industry. The Symposium was founded in 1987 by Wayne Ruga as a forum that initiated the inquiry of how the design of the physical environment could positively affect healing and promote well-being. It was the first time such a forum was convened for design professionals, healthcare executives and product manufacturers. Since that first event in Carlsbad, California the Symposium has developed a reputation for providing a quality conference program, opportunities for interaction with professionals with similar interests, a tradeshow floor that includes a wide variety of products & services and a yearly rejuvenation for the professionals that experience the Symposium. The Symposium attendees represent every stakeholder that sits around the table to renovate or construct a healthcare environment. They are architects, engineers, contractors, interior designers, facility managers & planners, healthcare administrators and clinicians. These dedicated professionals experience a world-class conference program where speakers share their expertise and discuss the trends and complex issues within this industry. They network in unique settings like the Symposium party featuring the annual raffle. Since 2006 the Symposium party has featured a raffle in which prizes ranging from iPads to Nordstrom gift cards to Kate Spade purses to Chicago Cub tickets have been given away. The organizations who have benefited the proceeds of this raffle have received donations up to $14,000. Causes like the Rick Hansen Foundation, La Rabida’s Children Hospital, Pet Partners and Access Health have been the recipients. Most of all, they come away from the 3 day event feeling inspired and reinvigorated to transform the healthcare environments. The Symposium exhibitors and sponsors represent organizations that offer a product or solutions that can help healthcare facilities save money, increase profits, maximize facility efficiencies and operations. These companies take advantage of 7 expo hours over two days including 5 dedicated expo hours to meet nearly 3,000 buyers and specifiers. The Healthcare Facilities Symposium & Expo partners with leading healthcare industry publications and organizations to deliver the audience for the event. The extensive advisory board represents the entire industry with professionals from design firms, major health systems and manufacturers. This board helps shape the conference program as well as the marketing campaign and recommends organizations that should participate in the exhibition floor. The group meets yearly in January to set the stage for that year’s event as well as provides guidance throughout the year.
