Healthcare Design Work


Bruce’s practice covered 5 decades, with most of it being in the design of healthcare facilities. He was Stantec’s leader of their corporate wide Health + Wellness practice, helping to grow it into a top 5 global health design firm. As a Designer Healer his projects ranged from a new hospital in Inuvik above the Arctic Circle in Northern Canada, to a new 100 bed hospital on the Island of Tobago in the Caribbean. Bruce has been named as one of the top 25 most influential people in healthcare design in North America. His last project prior to his retirement in July 2018 was the $1.5 billion Calgary Cancer Centre. 


About Bruce

As a Purveyor of Wisdom, Bruce now uses his earthly experiences as a designer, coach, mentor, patient partner and advocate to continue to improve the delivery of healthcare. Bruce is an active member of the Patient Voice’s Network a community of patients, families and caregivers working with health care partners to improve the health care system in British Columbia. Bruce is a partner on the Critical Care Services Executive Committee for the province of British Columbia, is a mentor in the University of British Columbia’s Interprofessional Health Mentors Program, and sits on the Steering Committees for the design of the Inpatient Units, the Critical Care complex and the new Emergency Department for the $2.17 billion new St. Paul’s Hospital in Vancouver. BC.

Bruce also sits on the board of the Louis Brier Home and Hospital, home to 215 residents. The Brier is a leader in the provision of care to the Jewish elderly in Vancouver through excellence in service, clinical practice, education and community outreach.

Fun Fact

Bruce is the leader of the Rattling Chain Gang (RCG), a not-so-elite a group of friends who love to drink, eat and laugh while cycling around British Columbia and countries abroad. Previous cycling trips include Connemara Ireland and Puglia Italy.
