Heather Stemas, M Ed, ATR-BC, LCPAT has been an art therapist at Children’s National Medical Center in Washington DC for 16 years. She provides creative and expressive art therapy sessions and groups to help hospitalized and chronically ill children and teens express their feelings, thoughts, and dreams, and to help empower them through their medical journey. She’s facilitated support groups for parents and self-care groups for staff. She’s pursued advanced training in art therapy with traumatized individuals, and advocates for the benefits of art therapy and mental health through presentations at Annual Art therapy conferences and Pediatric Nursing conferences. In addition, she proudly supervises art therapy interns from the George Washington Graduate Art therapy program along their path to becoming professional art therapists. Her artwork has been published in Somerset Studio, and Cloth Paper Scissors magazines and shown at numerous exhibits across the metropolitan area.
