Infusion Dance - Creating Bedside Communities
An infusion pod is a cloister of separated individuals: the patient (fatigued, scared, in pain,) the care-partner (fatigued, protective, bored), the nurses and staff (executing a difficult job where precision is everything). To unite these individuals into one community, and to improve their individual and collective experience at a difficult time. we started an infusion dance project at Penn State Hershey Cancer Institute. In this interactive workshop, performed to a wide variety of music, we will simulate what happens in bedside and cubicle settings--seated, lying down, and standing with the pole.
Effects of Live Art on Patients and Staff in an Outpatient Chemotherapy Treatment Environment

Existing Research in Arts in Health: How to Turn an Idea into a Research Project
In this presentation, I will discuss how research does not limit your creativity as an artist, an art therapist, teacher, or any arts-based facilitator. It fact, it can enhance it by helping you think about what you are really trying to accomplish and why you are running a program. I will review 3 common types of research: (1) Quantitative, (2) Qualitative, (3) Mixed Methods. After that description, I will walk through several designs of interventions, reviewing basic principles of research and what we need to know: (1) Our research question or hypothesis (what we are trying to do); (2) Our population (the people who will receive the intervention); (3) The design of how we are going to do this (here, collaboration with researchers can help); and (4) The outcomes (what we hope changes). By participating in this, you will have the chance to see the basic principles of research in action and have the opportunity to apply it to your own arts program or project.
