Remaking Health through Design
Executive Director, Design Institute for Health
Our societal approach to healthcare was borne of a different era, and as modern challenges in health arise, we find ourselves struggling to keep pace with the change. In spite of notable advances in science and technology, our health outcomes are not improving commensurately, and new approaches are necessary. A bold effort to build a model for a modern health ecosystem is arising out of Central Texas, and at the center of it is an experiment in Design. The Design Institute for Health, a joint collaboration between the College of Fine Arts and the new Dell Medical School at the University of Texas at Austin, was founded in 2015 to apply new creative approaches to age-old system issues, and is developing new health capabilities in clinical environments, in the community, and in educational curriculums.
