RED SOX, SEAFOOD AND COLLEGE KIDS

In less than a month we will all be gathered at the 32nd Annual Healthcare Facilities Symposium & Expo.  It will be my 20th Symposium which is a little crazy when I think about it.  For an added treat we are going to be in my home state of Massachusetts.  I am over the moon with excitement anticipating welcoming everyone to the great city of Boston.

We have quite a line up this year including 4 keynotes over the three and a half days.  The Boston healthcare and design community have really embraced us coming back to their city for the first time since 2003.  The Boston Society of Architects Healthcare Committee is organizing a walking tour of the Longwood Area and our Wednesday night Happy Hour will be at the BSA Space near the Seaport District. As a bonus, we have pre and post conference workshop opportunities. We’ve added a second Design Solutions Theater to the exhibit floor as well as bringing back the Tackle Box.  You can see all our offerings and how much we’ve included in this year's schedule here.

I want you to register for the event if you have not already and come to Boston for all the education, networking opportunities and all the innovative products and solutions in our exhibit hall.. However, I also want you to spend some time exploring our world class city. I always get emails prior to the event with folks asking for restaurant suggestions or information about the city we are going to. I have usually been there and versed myself so I can answer those questions. This year I’m afraid I have too much information to give!   Here are my top three things you need to do in Boston while attending the Symposium.

  1. Go to a Red Sox game!  I know they are not playing great baseball this year but when you step through the gates to the hallowed grounds of Fenway Park it will be an experience.  From a design perspective you also should see how they have upgraded the park while keeping its historical feel.  The Sox are in town during our event so perfect chance to catch a game on Tuesday night after the Symposium Party.

  1. Enjoy some fresh seafood!  Whether it’s fish and chips at any of the local Irish pubs, oysters at the Union Oyster House or Island Creek Oysters, or lobster at Legal Seafood’s please be sure to try some of our local bounty. You can even head down to the Seaport district and see the daily hauls being brought in off the boats.  It does not get any fresher than that.

  1. Watch the college kids!  There are 35 colleges in Boston and September is when they all come back to the city.  Head to Harvard Square or Kenmore Square and be transported back in time to your college years.  Visit the Boston University Bookstore or walk along the Charles River and you’ll be immersed in the hustle and bustle of college kids starting a new semester. It’s a good energy to help open your mind to learning new things at the Symposium.

Enjoy the last few weeks of summer and I will see you in Boston very soon!

Be well,

Jenabeth
