Have you heard the news? For the first time in 10 years the Symposium will be held somewhere other than Chicago. We are bringing the networking opportunities, world class educational program, inspiring keynotes, and customer service the Symposium is known for to the South Atlantic Region in 2016. This year we will call the Hilton Orlando home for 3 days in September.
I have been asked two questions since we made this announcement last October. Why move from Chicago? And why Orlando? I wanted to answer those questions in this forum for all our attendees, exhibitors and sponsors.
It truly has been an amazing decade in Chicago. We saw Lurie Children’s and RUSH start as holes in the ground and are now celebrating several years serving patients. Chicago’s rich architecture and healthcare communities welcomed us and made a great back drop for years of creativity and connections. It is time for the Healthcare Facilities Symposium & Expo to see what is happening in other parts of the country.
The South Atlantic region is one of the top healthcare construction markets in the US, has a thriving AEC community and is seeing continued growth in healthcare construction. Florida Hospital for Women just opened and Lake Nona Medical City is a global destination for healthcare. There are over 140 hospitals, 240 Ambulatory Care Centers, 800 Clinics and 1400 Senior Living Facilities within a 100 mile radius of Orlando. The AIA Orlando is one of the largest in the state with over 600 members.
Orlando is the heart of this region and allows inexpensive and easy accessibility for folks from all over the country. More than 40 scheduled airlines provide nonstop service from more than 100 U.S. and international destinations. Airfares are among the lowest of the 50 largest U.S. airports. The Hilton Orlando is a 15 minute cab ride from Orlando International Airport and the hotel rate is under $200 per night.
Choosing the Hilton Orlando allows us to have the exhibits, conference, sleeping rooms and more all under one roof. This will allow for more networking time and no cab rides to and from the venue. You are also not stuck at the hotel, as it is 1 minute to I Drive and 2 minutes to Pointe Orlando. This means fast access to great restaurants and entertainment options.
I am really excited for the business opportunities this move will mean for all our attendees, exhibitors and sponsors. We are hard at work planning this year’s conference so be on the lookout for registration to open in late March.
